2017 Lighthouse Festival
The Pointe aux Barques Lighthouse Society will hold the 14th annual Festival on Saturday August 5, 2017 from 10:00am - 4:30pm. The grounds of Lighthouse Park will be alive with all sorts of activity.
The Museum will be open with Lighthouse, Life Saving and Lake Huron history. The historic third order Fresnel lens that guided mariners from 1873 until 1969 will be on display rotating on the first floor of the Museum. The new exhibit on the Motoa will be on display for the first time in the Preserve room. The Motoa ran aground during the Storm of 1913 just north of the Lighthouse. There is history for all ages in every room.
The Tower will be open for climbing from 10:00 to 4:30 so come get your exercise.The grounds will be alive with music from local folk singer and storyteller Jimmy DeHano. Suisan and Ziggy will also be on hand with their particular brand of blues, creole and folk music.Vendors of all type will be with us. The café will be going strong with new items to whet your appetite plus the corn roast and ice cream are also available.
The Gift shop will be open with a wide range of items relating to the Lighthouse and our history. A special children’s section will be included with books for reading and doing.
There is no admission to the Festival, but donations are requested. There is plenty of free parking.
We are located six miles north of Port Hope or 12 miles south of Port Austin just off M-25. At Lighthouse road turn toward the Lake. At the entrance to Lighthouse Park turn. We are located 300 yards away on the Lake Huron Shore. Full directions on the location page of the website.
